Swanpool Beach (Falmouth)

Swanpool Beach is located on the south coast of Cornwall, just west of Falmouth town centre. It is a small, accessible beach set within a sheltered bay, with a lagoon and nature reserve directly behind it. The beach has a quieter character than some of the larger nearby beaches and is used for a mix of recreation and short visits.

The beach is mainly shingle with some sand exposed at lower tide. It is backed by low cliffs and a freshwater lagoon, known as Swanpool, which supports wildlife and forms part of a designated nature reserve. The bay is relatively sheltered compared to the north coast, resulting in generally calmer water conditions. The beach is known for its compact layout and combination of coastal and inland natural features.

Access is straightforward from Falmouth, with a road leading directly to a car park close to the beach. Parking is available but can be limited during peak periods. Facilities include a café, toilets and seasonal equipment hire. The beach is also connected to coastal paths, including routes linking to Gyllyngvase Beach and further along the coastline. The layout is simple, with a short walk from parking to the beach.

Swanpool Beach can be visited throughout the year and is particularly suitable for families, swimming and short coastal walks. The sheltered position makes it more suitable for general use than for surfing. The beach can become busy in summer, although it is typically less crowded than more central locations in Falmouth. Tidal changes affect the amount of sand available, and the shingle surface may not suit all visitors.
