Port Isaac

Port Isaac is a small fishing village located on the north coast of Cornwall, between Tintagel and Padstow. It is set within a narrow inlet with a steep valley leading down to the harbour. The village has a traditional character, with a working harbour and closely packed buildings, and is widely known for its preserved layout and coastal setting.

About Port Isaac

The village is arranged around a small harbour, with narrow streets and lanes descending steeply towards the water. Many of these streets are pedestrianised or unsuitable for vehicles, contributing to its compact and historic layout. The harbour remains in use by small fishing boats, maintaining its original function. Port Isaac is known for its appearance in television and film, particularly as the setting for the series “Doc Martin.” Nearby locations include Port Gaverne, just along the coast, and the wider North Cornwall coastline accessed via the South West Coast Path.

Visiting Port Isaac

The village is accessed via narrow roads from the A39, with limited vehicle access within the village itself. Parking is located at the top of the village, requiring a walk downhill to reach the harbour. The steep streets can make access more difficult, particularly for those with limited mobility. Facilities include cafés, shops and accommodation, although options are more limited than in larger towns.

The village can be visited throughout the year, with summer being the busiest period. It is well suited to short visits, walking and exploring the harbour and surrounding coastline. During peak times, the village can become crowded and access more restricted. Outside summer, it is quieter and easier to explore, although weather conditions can be more changeable.
