Maenporth Beach is a sandy beach located on the south coast of Cornwall, a few miles south-west of Falmouth. It sits within a small bay backed by low cliffs and wooded areas, facing out towards Falmouth Bay. The beach is less exposed than those on the north coast and is commonly visited for its calmer conditions and accessible setting.
The beach is relatively small, with a mix of sand and some shingle near the edges. It is enclosed by headlands on either side, which provide shelter from prevailing winds and reduce wave exposure. At low tide, a larger area of sand is revealed, along with rock pools along the edges of the bay. The beach is known for its suitability for swimming and general leisure use rather than surfing.
Access is straightforward, with a car park located close to the beach and a short walk down to the sand. Parking is privately managed and can be limited during peak periods. Facilities include a café, toilets and seasonal services, making it one of the more convenient beaches on this stretch of coast. The beach can also be reached via the South West Coast Path, linking it to nearby coves and walking routes.
Maenporth Beach can be visited throughout the year, although conditions are most favourable in late spring and summer. It is particularly suitable for families, swimming and relaxed visits due to its sheltered position and nearby amenities. The beach can become busy during warmer months, especially at weekends and holidays. Tidal variation affects the available space, with a wider sandy area at low tide and more limited space at high tide.
